George Sleeman was born in St David's, Lincoln County, Ont. He became proprietor of Silver Creek Brewery. He held positions in Town Council 1876, was a reeve 1879, mayor by acclamation 1880, 1893, Heat and Light Commissioner until 1906, and was head of Board of Parks management. He promoted the Guelph Opera House Co. and built, owned, and operated the Guelph Street Railway. He was the president of the Maple Leaf Baseball Club, and coin collector. The records concern his f amily, brewery, baseball, and business, as well as the Barber, Watson, Inch, and Irving families.
